The Grey Owl Guide is the economy option from their traditional or deep water range, having said this, from 5 yards you wouldn't be able to tell. This blade truely sings when moving through the water.

For long deepwater journeys this is the first blade I reach for, beautiful to handle and not too tiring. Having said this, after paddling with a Scout for a few hours then picking up this blade, initially it will feel like a scaffold pole due to its weight, but this feeling soon disappears as the guide's song accompanies you across the water.

Blade Area: As can be seen from the A4 Gauge, a moderate blade area, providing good propultion compared to the Scout.

I am now of the mind that Grey Owl paddles cannot be beaten and for that sort of money you can't go wrong. Good review.
Bought a Grey Owl Guide yesterday (my first Grey Owl) - the laminated cherry looks absolutely beautiful. Used it today - fantastic. Not as heavy as I though it would be.
