Hi well my first canoe has just been arrived a Nova Craft Prospector 15
and just waiting for all the rest of the gear to arrive to kit her out.

It's been about 15yrs since I had my hands on a canoe (but at that time they where just planks of cedar that I made in to what i like to call Canoe Porn maybe more on that later Wink )
So it's been a while since I've been out on the water hopefully she'll be fitted out and ready to go in a week or so.

I can allready here the call of the wild Whistle and cant wait to get a few trips out.

Cheers
Jeff (ex wooden boat and canoe builder)
Hi Jeff and welcome to C-waV. Excellent that you are so close to getting back to paddling. Congrats on the new boat, hope the rest of the stuff is with soon. Looking forward to reading you posts and especially looking forward to you sharing some of you past builds with us.

Hope to catch up with you on the water sometime. Smile

Hi Jeff

Welcome to the forum Wave

Cheers Graeme
Thanks for the warm welcome

hopefully the prospector will be kitted out in a few days ready for her maiden voyage on loch ken and also the wife's maiden voyage in a canoe which should be funExclamation

I have a few additions planned to make for the prospector which include a couple of removable backrests, seat for the hull, new breast hook carry handles, sailing thwart and mast step and a couple of paddle designs I'm thinking about including a double bentshaft.

Talking of paddles I'd like to know what you think of the whisky jack paddles lovely designs but seem weak at the joint between shaft and blade I've seen a few bad reports on the www about them.

Hopefully I should have some old photos gathering dust of the boats, canoes and kayaks I used to build.
I worked for McNulty Boats on the Tyne for about 12yrs building everything from sailing boats to a cedar strip bath tub (no doubt I'll be getting asked to post a couple of pics of that one)

Anyway thats about it for now hopefully I'll be doing some more posts soon and get out on a meet in the near future I'm off now to order a new boat name decal

Cheers Jeff

Can I take it you make paddles also? Whistle you wouldnt happen to have photos of some you've made would you? Saarlak on here has made some beautiful ones. I find it very intriguing how they are made and the difference in designs

I love the look of the Whiskey Jack paddles and bought a double chaser, stunning bits of woodwork but not really built to last, I could be a little hard on them but another member had one that snapped and is now a chopping board. We did proclaim it to be ideal for bow paddling if handled carefully. I was looking at a Whiskey River at Yorkshire Canoes the other day, they still have an amazing appeal but I'm going to stick pretty much with Grey Owl for now as I know what I'm getting and they are built to last not just to look pretty.

Any chance you could post some pics Whistle Wink
Hi Las247
Paddles: truth is I've never made a paddle yet, I've been looking at a lot of the designs on the market and I'm going to be pinching the best parts of few paddles to hopefully get what I'm after.

As for the photos I'll get on to it when I get home I'm currently working offshore in the northsea, I might need a bit of tuition on uploading the photos so will PM you if I get stuck

Jeff
