Canoe with a View : : Canadian Open Canoe forum

I've always found birding to be an especially canoe friendly pastime, mostly because our canoes do not frighten them . While I'm no birder, the marshlands I paddle year round to stay in shape are right smack in the middle of North America's largest migratory winter stop over.

Great Pics there Mrs R loves the first one "Smirnoff ice in hand now that's canoeing" she commented.
I wouldn't have let those Spy ducks get so close though, always checking what a C-wavers doing those pesky little mallards.

Brilliant pictures, I loved the one of the underside of the in flight bird of prey, and the mirror lake. Keep them coming.

Excellent photos Andrew. I was hoping someone would start a birds thread. The fourth photo of the heron a particular favourite, looks like it could've been taken on the Norfolk Broads. Stunning scenic shots in there too. Keep'em coming.

Hi Andrew, first with being away I missed out on welcoming you to the site, so a Warm Welcome from me.
Very impressed with the pic's of the Bird life, you are very fortunate to live where you do, which I'm sure you know anyway, and some of the scenery shots are well, words fail me for once, Stunning is the best I can come up with, please keep them coming.

Thank you all for the tremendous feedback, and for the belated introduction Canalvoyageur! I feel like this is sort of unfair cause I have years of built up keepers that I can share at once but in reality they dont come along all that often.

What can I say... I'll try not to spam it all away too soon

You know what I really love about photography, is that every person has a different favorite out of any given collection of images. Out of that set I posted, my favourite is the peek-a-boo owl shot and the Pacific Merlin Falcon that caught the pigeon. I was there to see the pigeon struck in mid flight, that falcon hit it like a lightning bolt out of nowhere. By the time I got to my camera and got a zoom lens on, the falcon had already removed the pigeons head and was scarfing it down.

The landscape shot of the lake is actually the Columbia River in North Central BC, and it is equally beautiful in winter too!

The Owl shot does it for me

Let's face facts. You've got an eye for the birds. And handy with a camera too.
