The plan for today was simple, up early, get to Coniston, quick paddle around the south end and back home before the crowds surface and catch the football, oh and lunch, hmm lunch, more of that later.
Up the M6, and presented with a wonderful site of at least a dozen hot air balloons, fantastic view first thing in the morning.
Arrived at Coniston around eight of the morning clock, just in time to catch site of a blue 4x4 whistle by with a couple of canoes on top, I can't remember the colour of the second canoe my eyes were blinded by the yellow mohawkWhistle.

I started paddling south at a very lazy pace and headed down the crake until I got the Alun Tarn turned around and paddled up to my first brew stop up near the moored boats. Met a couple of tandem paddlers at the south end on their way around the lake.

After a quick brew it was on to Peel Island and then across to Sunnybank Beck and back at the car for eleven bells.

A quick pack up and ready for lunch, which was taken at the Crakeside Chippy, the fish and chips were excellent and recommended. The guy doing the frying is a fellow paddler and his ideal day is to take two bottles of wine and paddle to the middle of the lake and just drift, I suppose it has good a plan as any.
Well spotted AB myself and Mrs R were heading for Ullswater, as I always maintain green boats don't show up Tongue (TT to come in the week)
You have captured my Local paddle in all its glory that first picture of Sunnybank Beck is absolutely stunning.
Good Pics and write up, next time your up this way give us a shout. Smile
Looks like you picked the right morning AB, mind you, you know Coniston is going to be great when you spot the blue 4X4 going the other way. Wave
Excellent TT and gloriously superb pictures of a fine morning on the water.
An excellent write up AB combined with some stunning photo's. Coniston is one of my favourite lakes, probably down to the experiences I have had on it. The upper Crake is a lovely place to paddle. Looks like you had the weather as well.
So peaceful looking, it conjures up in my mind the visions of summer that I dream of though the long winter months. Gorgeous photographs!

Thanks for sharing!
Hi There, very nice TT and excellent pic's, Coniston Nah that wasn't Coniston in the pic's, or was it as Nige said, probably because Retro was heading the other way, sorry Gav; but I think you know what I mean.
Any way pleased you had a nice time, and thank you for sharing.
Happy paddling Regards Bill.

A.B next time your on the Crake if you go another hundred yards past Allan tarn, there's a great little brew stop on your right above the first chute of moving water Wink
