Well after showing off the DIY Penny stove I decided to see what to make next,Ive seen a couple of DIY wood gas stoves around but to be honest my engineering skills are a little to be desired
so here is the baked bean wood stove [Image: DSCF5248.jpg]

one baked bean can 11.5cm in height with top lid taken off leaving the lip intact (makes a safer and neater job) then I drilled 70 4mm holes in the base and some 8mm holes near the top rim and near the bottom to help with air flow
[Image: DSCF5257.jpg]

I then used 3 tent pegs for the legs/pan support by pushing the peg up thru one of the holes in the base (as close to the edge as poss) and out thru one of the bigger holes on the top rim, this gave a tight fit but the legs could still be adjusted for height

throw a handfull of dry sticks in and away you go

it boiled a pint of water with a handful of twigs in just over 4 mins
you could use pegs to peg down the feet if needed
It did smoke a bit but I put this down to the wood I used
Brilliant Tony,4 mins is quite fast too, we will of course expect a demonstration at Loch Ken. Cool
A bit of lurking on the 'dark' side I found this link...

might even find the time to try for myself.
I note they sell them too £30 not bad for a couple of bean tins, Tony there could be a market out there keep up the good work Tongue

Great stuff Tony. That penny stove was really impressive.

Does making bean tin stoves count as resting Gav?
I can see you entertaining the kids at Loch Ken with this Tony, well except for the igniting it bit Whistle
Ive just seen a couple of ideas for a woodgas stove so Im off to raid the recycle bins outside the works canteen Whistle Whistle

I just did - took me half an hour. I would recommend putting 3 holes in the top 'shelf' of the stove so that 3 nuts and bolts can be used to raise your cooking receptical off the top a couple of mm. I found that this made the wood burn a little better.

I used a bean tin for the firebox and a SMA baby milk tin for the outer.

chuffed! Thanks mattT and einzel-kocher
