I was in my rather warm garage before and noticed my foam mast foot held in with double-sided carpet tape had lifted the tape was still stuck to the bottom of the hull like

to a blanket. But had come off the foam there is a slight concave in the hull where it sits and consequently the foam is trying to follow this shape and with the heat it has relaxed the glue and lifted off going back to it's original flat bit of foam shape
So the question is what's the best material for a mast foot and what's the best glue to stick it in with for guaranteed results. I have included a picture so you can see what I am waffling on about.

I would have thought that a piece of 'etherfoam' (same stuff they use for saddles in SWWC) would be best.
Shape to the profile of the bottom of the hull and glue with sticky stuff from B&Q (cant remember name - having a senior moment!)
When I was sailing on a more regular basis I had a piece of 3mm ply glued in the bottom of my hull with one side of a sheet of velcro glued to it, then other side glued to a second piece of ply with the mast foot made from a block of Ash and screwed/glued to it.
Worked well, and was removeable when not required.

Cheers buddy once had a horse called evostick or was it uhu

Gav,
I use the same seat fastening, mast - mounting system as Magikelly ( I haven't got any pics, but if you have a look on t'other channel you'll find it easily enough ), but with the addition of a non fixed, high density closed cell foam mast foot. I'll take some pics tomorrow if I think on.
Cheers, Michael.

Cheers mate

well
im going to just wack a piece of foam ( minicell) but could use the same mat used by many for kneeling.
about three bits of about 1 inch thick bottom one whole, top two cut for mast foot
im going to stick it with wicks contact adesive as it works well with mats ( ask lee about it)
you do know Gav that if you glue it in 'permanently' you will BE a sailing Perv!
It goes against the grain of improvisation...

Do you think an ironing board would be make a good dagger board, just got to cut a slot in the bottom of the canoe. See using an ironing board is improvisation

Hi Gav
You may have to use Vyna Bond as Evostik does not stick to Royalex very well.
Normal rule of thumb for sticking anything that may bear some weight is;
Royalex/Lite boats Vyna Bond
Plastic/Corelite/TT etc Endless River River Bond

G, does Vyna Bond stick anything to the boat

Just about, we use to fix D Rings, mast feet, anchor kits, mini cell foam anything that may take some weight, for mats etc Evostick is fine

LEE

,WHAT DID YOU USE TO STICK THE D RINGS IN THE PROSPECTOR ?
iT.S JUST THAT THEY,VE BOTH COME UNSTUCK !
i HAD REAL PROBLEMS STICKING D RINGS IN THE APPACHE (grp) TOO!
SORRY ABOUT ALL THE capps ,aHA ! (i HAD THE CAPPS LOCK ON )

Think I may try this vynabond stuff, Where can I get it from ?
Is it possible that storing the canoe in a pollytunnel might have some effect on the glue ? It does get quite warm in there sometimes !
(loving the Prospector by the way ,I,ve been out paddling 5 times in 10 days ! Just cant leave it alone !!:joy
