After using mine for the first time in awhile (trolley that is) the lack of service was evident, flat tyre, stiff wheels, must make a go faster version lower friction coefficient

Funny you should say that, while clearing out the garage the other day I came across a piece of paper covered in Grease, it was obviously a well used maintenance manual for a portage trolley....
Greasy piece of paper Wrote:I don't know about anyone else but I like my boat to look as good out of the water as it does in it.
So I ensure that I keep my trolley in Tip Top condition.
After each paddle I make sure all the hinges are greased with Copper Slip (I used to use Marine grease but found that this was difficult to remove if I got it on my hands while out and about), to keep it all looking tidy I wrap the tubing with masking tape before applying the Copper Slip and then wipe any excess away, first with what I call my "dirty" rag, then with my "clean" rag. After I'm finished I remove the masking tape.
Then I apply a silicone based spray to the axles and hubs of the wheels (of course after masking off the areas I don't want the silicone to taint and removing any detritus with a cotton bud), during extensive tests I found that Copper Slip provides too much rolling resistance and you get more life out of your hubs with silicone. There are many different makes of Silicone spray, but I prefer to use Mr Magoo's Super Slippy Silicone as they don't use CFC's.
Not forgetting the Tyres, with these I first wash off with a weak mixture of Acetone and luke warm water, this helps remove any tar spots on the tyre wall, for best results I then apply a thin layer of Nikwax to the tyre wall (ensuring that I don't get any on the treads as this could cause loss of control during cornering) and finally I spend a good half hour polishing the tyre walls using good old dubbing until they gleam.
I'm thinking about painting the writing on the tyres white, but am unsure, I think that might be going a bit far...
The author's name was not ledgible, but it was lying next to an empty tin of Mr Magoos Super Slippy Silicone spray...
Cheers
Red.
