Paddling has taken a back seat over the last few months while a few health concerns back in the spring have been checked out. One outcome was a determination to do the last few "Wainwright" tops in the Lake District that remained unclimbed - just in case.
Climbed my first, Gowbarrow Fell, 40 years ago. With no particular plan to complete the list they just accumulated over the years. The final one, #214, Sale Fell was done earlier today. For once in sunshine with a picnic on the top in shorts and teeshirt. In usual fashion it was done Solo.
Siran had dropped me off at the Pheasant Inn near Bassenthwaite Lake before she went off to the Wool Fest at Cockermouth. After a little detour over Ling Fell, #213, it was a final grassy stroll up the grassy slopes of Sale Fell above the Wythop Valley.

Done it!
Although it looks cloudy it was in fact sunny and hot on the summit. Perched above Bassenthwaite the lake is only glimpsed being mostly hidden by the shoulder of the fell and the trees of Wythop Woods. It might not have been Everest but in true mountaineering tradition I got out my mobile phone and phoned SWMBO who told me she was looking at an Alpacha and an angora rabbit. Each to their own.
When I got back to the Pheasant Inn Siran was waiting with the car to whisk me off to a celebratory drink. "I guess you'll be spending more weekends at home now you've done them all?" she joked. "Er .. sorry Usual paddling service will resume shortly"
