i am going to ellington park to do my 3 star trad so after reading the thread by yorkshire canoe it says we are to do some downwind sailing so rather than get my dads golf umbrella soaked we decided to butcher a £10 tent that was on whime from lidi, our next door neighbour is a welder y trade and we use his metal working gear to make the brackets for the poles.
Picture shows the poles compared to a 20litre barrel

This picture shows the brackets the are at the front seat
This is how the poles fit into the boat
Put together this is what it looks like
You might notice we used the old guy rope to tension the poles

Nice one that Matt, with that design construction you will be able to concentrate on steering, bet Dad will probable be wanting the same, if he hasn't got it already, Look forward to seeing pics of it in action, and good luck on your 3* Trad Course, sure your sail will work good for you, please give my Regards to Dad. Happy Paddling/Sailing.

RE: hand made down wind sail
i am the grown up my wife tells me!
No Stu, what you mean is the same as my wife says to me and that is,
" Why Dont You Grow Up"
My Father also used to say to me as he cliped me across the ear, when I had done something he disaproved of,
"Why Dont you Grow up Stupid".
So I did.
Best Regards Bill
