Great pictures Bill. Seeings you have had such a long relationship with Rudyard, can you shed any light on what that jetty thing was for in the background of pic#2?

Looks a little more worse for ware!
Hi Nige, cant really tell you much more than you already deduced, other than there were a lot more timber constructed residences all along the edge of the lake and more deep into the wood, one of my sisters used to live in one when she first got married, I also had a cousin who occupied one as well, going back to the jetty, most of the properties had access to the water via a jetty, The water level in those days was a lot higher in those days after all of the commercial traffic on the canal ceased in the late fifties and early sixties, and there was little or no private use of the canal system, consequently there was no need to release water to replenish the canal system, in fact the lake often spilt over the spill way at the Dam end it was quite a sight to see,at the Dam end where the cafe and visitors centre is used to be a permanent fun fair, fishing, and rowing boats, and of course the sailing club have always been there. not a lot more to say about Rudyard, I have spent many a happy weekend fishing/camping with my Dad going back to the late forties, right up to joining the Army and started again when I came home in the seventies.Happy Memories !
Best Regards Bill
Thanks for sharing Bill

Gud on ye
Very nice, Bill. Thanks for sharing it.

Rudyard is one lake I would like to paddle, but it would need an over-night stay. Anyone??

Cheers

Biff
Alex I am sure we can sort something out.
I just need to sort out a camp site as there is no camping on the bank side

(Camp site investigation underway)

Hi, all, surprised you found nothing on google Nige, alright I will tell you, it was a Moth, oh yes it was, and it was a Tiger Moth, none the less the Plane version, I will find some pics of it and post them for you.
Yes the Plane landed on Rudyard lake as part of a Lake hoping journey on its way to Scotland, dont know why as I'm sure it could have made the journey with out stopping.
Regards Bill
Interesting indeed Bill. Still not found anything even now you've told us. Be interested to see any pics if you manage to find any!
You know, I never knew that there was a seaplane version of the Tiger Moth, but it was publicised in Flight on the 13th November 1931

They were a fantastic aeroplane, I flew one in 1985 over Goodwood, believe me that is quite a buzz doing a loop at 3,000 feet hanging from the straps with only the earth below, although hoping that after 50 years of service the seat belt mountings were still good Rolleyes

Great thread CV really enjoying it Smile
Ok Guys, found the pic's of the Tiger Moth and have Scanned and downloaded or uploaded to PhotoBucket not very good I'm afraid, sorry not very good with pics as you have perhaps noticed before.
Graeme you say you have flown said aircraft was that RAF, or civilian licence, Respect man Respect !!

Hope you like, as I say not very good but best I can do.
Regards Bill
Excellent Bill, wonder where it is now?

What do you need a licence for Bill 'Who Dares Wins' Wink have flown a few aircraft over the years, Slingsby sail plane, Cessna 150 but the best by far was the open cockpit Moth, nothing like having the wind in your hair (when I had some Rolleyes )
