At 15:11 Andy very kindly sent me a text message....
It read.....
Happy Birthday mate, and mind those fingers!, have a good one and see you soon.
He's a very perceptive chap is our Andy...
For the sake of a full story, here's part of my Birthday present....
Obviously the birdy pressie had to be used....
All going well....
Until....
....
Yes, Andy, I should not have had my phone on Silent, otherwise I would have been able to hinder your words.....
Bill, thank you for enticing me with Shiny things from your copious collection....
Greg, I think an ASS.2* (Axe Safety Session) would be more appropriate than an ASS.3* (Axe Sharpening Session).....
I think I've already qualified for the ASS.1*......
Cheers
Red.

Are you sure you spelt ASS right

I have been thinking for sometime now that we should have a Canoe/bushcraft meet where we can pass on a few skills and learn some new ones. And reading this thread has convinced me!

Lovely prezzie BTW.
PS. A good sharp tool (and i do mean the axe) will provide a good clean cut. So next time make sure you have a bag of frozen peas ready and Christine out front with the car ticking over!

Now singeblister has finally joined he is the guy to teach sharpening......he has shown me how to get my knives scary sharp.....
Greg
Greg, do you think its wise that we should encourage him to sharpen it?

Deffo the docs love to stitch up clean wounds....and fingers are easier to re-attach when the cut is clean.
The sharper the tool the cleaner the cut. The faster it heals.

LMAO, at the last piccie, learnt my lesson with an axe at someone elses expense.
I was bivvi'ing out with a bloke I knew.. lets call him Richard Head.
Well Dick was splitting wood for the fire, he must have thought he had an accurate strike as he like a plank he placed his thumb on top of the wood he was about to split, in fact right next to the intended strike point.
It was quite comical when he looked at his new thumb profile with shocked wonder a fair bit of first aid and a tea towel soaked in blood later we arrived at casualty........
I support the wood to be split with all fingers toes and all other parts of me away from what is now a really sharp axe (must be able to shave hairs off my arm) and said axe allways put back into its sheath.
goota go and take Mand to work.........
cheers
Tim
Oh Dear Dear Red, and on your Birthday, hope you didn't get Blood on the living room carpet, funny but not in the humour es sense, Jeff (Nomadpaddler) used my axe to produce some kindling and did very much the same as you, The Stick you was cutting was far to long, because as you struck the stick would flex, best use a knife and Batten or use a Batten with the axe, Still at least only superficial wounds, take care mate see you soon I hope
Best Regards Bill.
