Thanks for the vote of confidence

but don't do tandem paddling unless Sacha is in the boat
Anyway,,,,
1) Red and I are both righties
2) Can't get in a C2 with a drysuit on
3) Can't/Don't swim (and don't want to learn

)
4) Its cold and wet

5) The extra weight would slow Red down

6) Not enough gates for a fag break for both of us
7) I like to be able to feel my feet and ankles
8) Just got my blood pressure down to normal
9) Might scratch my paddle
10) Why the

would I want to get into one of those silly things anyway
That should do for the start of the excuses
Anyway you youngsters are a lot fitter than me and I enjoy coaching too much to compete

Hi Graeme,
Thanks for the links - sorry haven't worked out how to add quotes from previous posts yet
The Yin looks quite interesting, and they had a demo boat on the web site at reduced price, but it was cut for a 60kg Paddler, whilst Alex is @ 75kg, so wouldn't suit.
As Alex is only just getting into this he was also looking around to see if there are any "this seasons" boats that people were trying to sell, waiting for next years shiney new ones - but no luck so far so he might just have to buy new??
He might try to get to Bala to have a look at the options available - are any of you guys going there?
Graham
Another source for 2nd hand boats is the
Canoe Slalom website either in the Small Ads or on the Chatter forum, there have been a few on there just recently

You have lost me there, what is happening at Bala?
The Yin is quite a good boat or the Vajda Lizard or Menace avoid the Martikan like the plague unless Alex wants to spend his life upside down
If buying new don't go for a full race spec boat as you will only have to add weights to make it leagal, a training spec Vajda or the GS Mixt or Flexi spec are ideal weights.
Hope this helps?

I would certainly second this, my Galasport Mixt boat is more than capable of doing the job at half the price of a Competition layup....
Cheers
Red.
Talking about boats this is what Ive found
Vajda Menace is whit i still paddle, Its one of the more stable boats out there, it has a high volume tail so turns can be quite slow at times.
Vajda Lizard is a lovely boat has good straight line speed and turns with ease, slightly less stable than the menace.
Vajda Martikan is a C1 but it had a Kayak hull so is very unstable, loads of the top lads got them and didn't get on with them to well. I had a go and almost went over on flat water but you have to treat the boat like a kayak not a C1.
Galasport Makao has lovely straight line speed but I found it turned too quick on gates don't know if this was because I had never paddled it before.
Think that's about all I've tried

In a few months, I'll have a nice selection of boats at Manchester if he wants to try out different boats, none for sale though. Currently I only have Lizards, but will have a Yin, a 64, a Imo & my new Loco
Second hand C1s are currently being sought by a number of people, so speed is of the essence if one comes up for sale, get there straight away.
Bala has not been confirmed yet, unfortunately if it is on, we'll be missing it as I'll be at the womens camp swimming at HPP
