Specifications and website details
GRP Prospector is a 16' open Canadian canoe with a 3' beam. It has a classic streamline shape with narrow bow and stern sweeping out to the centre of the boat. The design has a rounded hull and a slight rocker providing good manoeuvrability. Prospectors are a fine combination of design factors for the provision of speed, handling and visual appeal.
The hull is constructed in GRP with the gunnels, seats, decks and buoyancy chambers in solid timber. Depending on preference, seats may be either solid wood, cane or woven webbing.
The boat comes with tender lines and carry lines.
Storage ports can be added in the buoyancy chambers if desired.
These craft are beautiful pieces of workmanship. The wood work showing off John Wilkinsons obvious love of working with wood. As soon as I laid my eyes on one of these I simply had to have one.

My prospector in the hands of Retro.
The hull is GRP, and so does weigh a bit more than your average plastic boat, but weight was not my main consideration, however, the the aesthetics and beauty was and these canoes have loads of both.
Each craft is a little unique, as John does not work a conveyor system with his builds, each one is different depending on the customers needs and wants, down to the amount of free-board and the type of hardwood used. John also keeps you upto date with the build progress with photos. Nice touch!

Waiting to set off again.
The canoe handles and tracks exceptionally well, it turns on a penny and speed through the water is is maintained with minimum effort. It will easily let you drop the gunwale to the water but still remains very stable.
These are beautiful craft, designed and built with affection. The craftsmanship is second to none and they're a joy to paddle. The price you can get from the website here you will agree is exceptional value for money for such a fine craft.
