Hi all
is there any 'online' tuition for explaining things like the J stroke. I'd like to do a bit of swotting up before my boat arrives

in December

Thank you Graeme, looks easy
Canadian stroke looks nice, is that a popular stroke in Blighty?

Sadly it is a stroke that is not often used except by the connoisseur

but it is a very nice comfortable stroke to use, again like the J takes some practice to perfect.

In a sense I am from a world of dreams, escapism and make believe. Illusion, smoke and mirrors.
but I live in Wendover, Bucks.

Just watched the Bill Mason clip, thanks Magic. Oh, and a big warm welcome to C-waV.
The Canadian is a lovely stroke especially when using a nice beavertail.

Not especially difficult to master once you've mastered the J.
The thing I found when starting out was the more you concentrate the harder it became. Once I thought I was doing it right it all went pear-shaped.

A good start....

...
Perhaps you'd like to post up in "Say Hello"...
Love to know more about what boat you've gone for, why that make/model..., as I guess it's your first boat.., and if you'll be able to make the End Of Summer Meet, you've just got to come join us around the camp fire before the leaves start falling.......
Cheers

Then of course after mastering using a paddle the next step is using a pole (canoe that is rather than some of the other types

)
A true master makes something difficult look easy... Bill is a God.
I only hope one day I can paddle half as well as that and I will be happy - largely because I will be doing WW
I have a lot of practising to do ...
