We all learnt it somewhere, at sometime, at someplace....Shy

It's looking good, and I can't wait to meet it in the flesh...joy

Red.
Today I'm making the lid.

While recessing the hinges I've managed to slice into a a digit.

I did try and get a picture of my bleedin digit. But, screaming like a girl I went all faint and crumpled to the kitchen floor muttering something in anglo saxon!

Will there be enough room for a first aid kit in there... Big Grin
Maybe a small one Keith!

I do have to think about room for the more essential items. Wink
Well even with my throbbing digit all wrapped I have managed to build the lid and fit it. Starting to look summat like now!

The lid opens sideways allowing better access when in the canoe.

Yaeh yeah! You all may laugh.

As the cut is diagonal across the knuckle and almost to the bone, I'm now grounded from paddling till its mended. So bang goes mi trip to Rudyard on Wednesday. Sad snivel! Sad
Just to add.

The upside to all this is I can't wash the pots! Big Grin
Okay. Latest wanigan instalment.

As I want to raise it off the bottom of the canoe to allow any water to pass under it I've fixed some lengths of wood to the base. I also decided to carry these on up the front and back. Hopefully these will be the base for fixing leather straps and buckles for holding the lid shut. Still got to source them if anyone has any ideas.

A couple of pics showing latest stage and first coat of varnish.

Getting there! Smile
Nige that looks great, but with the greatest respect the lid would be better if it was cut in Half ( The cut Being across Width) thus giving you two working surfaces so as to facilitate the unnecessary need to keep removing everything off the table so to speak just to get something out that you find you have forgotten, or someone asks you for something, hope my explanation makes sense.
Just to re-iterate my initial statement, looking good mate, cant really help you with your request but sure someone will.
Best Regards Bill.

PS, Hope the finger is getting Better ?
Blimey nearly as much wood used as in the construction of your ValkyrieTongue, as Bill says if the lid was in two sections you could still have a work platform whilst still being able to access the Wannigan for plasters etc,

Andy.
The original intention Bill was to have a 50/50 split lid, can't remember now why went for one piece. I think it was ease of manufacture. But the lid does open a full 180deg and I hope to fashion a pair of hinged legs so the whole thing becomes a work surface and the box is left open to retrieve anything I may need.

Besides, I ain't recessing any more hinges. Ouch!!

Andy, I Love it, "for access for plasters" LMAO.
But am still convinced two lids would be better, but Nige your idea to use your lid as a full table is great, unsure about exposing the open part to the elements but any period of time ???
Regards Bill

Recess for Hinges, (Tools for the Job ) Phone A&E to stand bye.

Tarp! No need to leave it exposed. I do not intend preparing food or much of anything else out in the p bleep g rain! This version is intended for overnight/weekend wild camp etc! The day wanigan is next on the list! Wink
