After snapping my makeshift plywood paddle I found myself as a general land lubber type.
Now due to the ingenius suggestion on some other forum elsewhere I decided to hack my redundant scaffolding planks - some 5 years old - into sensible lengths of paddle making plank.

Now this is not best ash or cherry or anything sensible like that and does have one or two knots in it - my wrists can testify to that after planing the damn thing down. However, I have now one paddle that feels quite light - although a tad short I think.

It has a few small splits in the surface so I decided to smother it in oil (day 3 of 7 now) so it would penetrate into the cracks.
Hopefully I might be able to sneak out while SWMBO is busy with the "to-be" new grand twins this weekend...
I have a second one on the go that is a slightly different shape. Given they are relatively easy to make I thought I could try a few shapes and see which I like best
