Well as everyone keeps harping on about Christmas, time to think about the annual pilgrimage to Matlock for the raft race joy

[evid]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buGGTJoBIC4[/evid]

Of course I am sure that people will be using sensible boats as well Rolleyes

Last time the group started from Darley Dale and did the full run down to Cromford, there is an option to start at Matlock bath and miss out the first 2-3 miles.

So any takers?

Hmmm iv got a decision to make now I think either paddle in the goyt race or the raft race at Matlock hmm will have to think about this one
Would love to join you but...my cover at work starts Christmas Day at 6.00pm and goes through to the Monday at 6.00am.....what a great Christmas I'm going to have. No drinking after lunch on Christmas Day (until Monday!), no paddling at Matlock on Boxing Day and no paddling at the Washburn on the 27th.

Have a good time guys!

Cheers, Windy
OK the plan so far,,,,,

Meet at Darley Bridge at 10.00 am

On the water for 10.30, gentle run down to Matlock G1/2 (River Guide) Matlock to Matlock Bath G2/2+ in high water then a section of G1 to the weir at Arkwright's Mill G2+/3 with a portage, a section of G1 to the finish at Cromford. This is the one time of the year that you can run the weir at Arkwright's Mill which is a gentle slope in to a small stopper at the bottom (if there is any water) other wise it is just a slide Wink

Then Barby time Campfire Cheers

So paddlers so far,,,,

Heather
Red
Jammy

Anymore just add to the list, those that have done some WW before would find that it is an interesting trip and not too scarey.

Paddling time 1 1/2 - 2 hours max,,,,,,, drinking and eating time afterwards priceless Smile

I must point out that the above description makes it sound quite a challenge.... It's not, the only pain is the Mill Section, and if the water's up you can easily jump out before it, and if you dont and you get wet the get out is minutes away, so you won't be cold for long....Smile

Cheers
Red.
i shall join you for the bbq but i want to be part of the raftr race and last year i didnt get to see any so well get on at matlock and see you down the bottom.
I will also be joining you for a BBQ but due to just breaking a nail I will give the paddle a miss. Tongue

I wish see ya on the bank Guys joy

It is not the easiest river in the world, but it is safe enough to run with someone who knows what they are doing, If you likely to take a swim it will either be at the slalom course or at the bottom of the mill as there is a stopper.

There are some technical moves to get trough some of the bridges and picking the right line. I'm sure FWP and Red can verify there are places you can swim.

I don't want people to get Complacent about it,
Hi Graeme, With Sir J's kindness in giving me a lift, I will probable be joining the Boss in capturing the Gunnel Grabers on camera at the Mill Wier. will require a lift from put in with Mrs Redframe ( Chris) if she would be so kind to go to BBQ, area, as we did last year and meet up with Nige.
Will bring goodies to BBQ as well, and a Big Big Towel for Mr Redframe. and some dry Fags. "I remember it well"
Best Regards Bill
