Well whats a bunch of frost bitten canucks supposed to do when the water is frozen and the canoes are packed away for the season? Get together for a little camping to talk about canoeing.......

So after soliciting from a couple of canoe forums we got eleven brave souls to show up at Valens Conservation Area for a weekend of tall tales and cold ales! The week prior had been questionable, lots of snow and temps down to around -25 c with the windchill but mother nature sorta cooperated and warmed up to -8 C for us, would have been really nice to have had more snow though, a couple of days of above 0 temps had melted the snow back to juast a few inches which can make for uncomfortable sleeping. Trust me, I'd rather pitch a tent in 2 feet of snow than on frozen rock hard ground! Anyway, heres a few pics http://www.thecampfireonline.com/app...lbumid=7946497

Had to get to the blog and photo's via http://www.thecampfireonline.com

Great writeup, sounds like you all had a great time of it, I like the idea of the Wood Fairy...joy although EBS sounds like one to avoid when camping... Big Grin

Looks and sounds like you all had a great time Red. Snow don`t hang around long enough here to make the most of it. Sitting around a fire talking rubbish whilst dropping your dinner in the fire is what I do best.Campfire
I wasn't there mate, it was Kirk, although I'd love to live there....Wink

Cheers

Looks like a great meet Kirk.
Interested to know. How many did you get to attend? There did seem to be a few. Over here when temperatures start to fall, it can be quite difficult to tempt people out of their winter nests. Big Grin
We had 11 stay for the weekend, another half dozen came by for the day on Saturday just for a little hiking and to put some woodsmoke flavor to their laundry baskets. If the snow had stayed we probably would have had a few more...... still a great way to spend some down time....
Any excuse to get back into the country is good enough for me tho
Kirk
Sounds an excellent way to spend a weekend, and help ward off the dreaded cabin fever.
Great pics

Thanks
