The Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation was one the last British waterway to be upgraded for freight traffic (upto 700 tons), with an ambitious series of improvements in the 1970s and early 1980s. There is a navigable route from the centre of Sheffield all the way out to Keadby and the Trent and on to the Humber estuary.

By travelling along this canal you will see many features of the industrial development over the years, there are series of locks and an aqueduct on the journey.

Not forgetting of course that the film the Full Monty was filmed in Sheffield on parts of the canal.
