I have recently bought an Old Town Discovery 158, and I am thinking of fitting a centre seat to use when solo. I have seen some pics of a Charles River fitted with an Endless River extra wide seat, and I thought that looked ok. I was just wondering what you felt, is this a good idea or am I barking up the wrong tree. Thank you for any suggestions.
Phil
Hi Phil
Yes it can be done and the Endless river extra wide seat works well, you also need a set of seat hangers to fit the seat, you could also fit a kneeling thwart instead of the seat for solo use, which takes up less space in the boat and with it being a kneeling thwart gives you better connectivity and control of the boat when solo.
We should have all the bits you need in stock soon at the new shop, so if you want to pop over sometime with the boat and we can have a look at it with you and show you the options, can even fit them for you if you wish.
If you ask us nicely we will even take you out on the local lake for a quick lesson to help you.
Don't forget hip blocks!!!!!
Cheers
Tim

Hi -really useful following this thread

I've a Disco 158 which bought for family use however, my enthusiasm hasn't been embraced by all...yet...! So, I'd be keen to hear how you get on Richard. I love paddling solo but, it can be awkward in a longish boat in a wind... From what you say, I'm possibly a little trimmer than thee, so the bog standard seat would be fine but, I expect the principle works the same. I bought a canvas clip-on seat a while back and it just wasn't up to it - it couldn't take the weight of my then 6 yrear old
Graeme - didn't realise you were openning up again - I'd be keen to drop by to see what you've got when you're all set. Are you planning on stocking things like C-tugs? I need one but, my local supplier hasn't had 'em for ages...
I have fitted a third seat in my prospector (and kneeling pads) see
this thread for piccies I have angled it so I can kneel and also fitted "hip blocks" for better connectivity with the boat, hope it helps....
Cheers

Oh yes up and running and we have nine C-Tugs in stock at the moment plus extra seats and drops, keeling thwarts, poles, downwind sails, paddles etc etc.
