I have THE black Apache. Just on with fitting it out at the moment.

Just the one, Venture Prospector 16. Seen here on maiden voyage. Flat lake, empty beach, good company. Pure magic.[Image: 4658952935_d8429783e9.jpg]
I know it's a somewhat old thread, but I just got "active" here.

I only have one canoe/boat (a 1915-book called it a "canoe invariably propelled by oars). I imported it from Vermont here to Denmark, and if you wonder, yes, I do have a paddle for it. Traditionally "guide paddles", or "sneak paddles" where used to sneak up on prey and to use in places too narrow for the oars. I have also opted to get feathering oars instead of the traditional, non-feathering kind. Oh, and a slide seat not shown in the pictures:

Very nice looking craft you have there OnP. Smile Do not tend to see many canoe/row style boats I think your photo is only the second one I've seen.

Thanks for sharing. Now looking forward to reading more of your trips in her. Wink

Nige.
Thank youSmile

You're right, there are not many around. There's only one boat of this particular model/brand in Denmark. Mine. So far.

I'm planning a bigger trip as we speak, the length of which will more or less be determined by the wind, in that I don't want to be rowing in too strong a wind. Even if the boat can take it, I'm not sure I can. I expect to be gone a couple of weeks.

Anyway, my plan is to leave sometime during this coming week depending solely on when my gear will arrive and how fast I can figure out how to use the GPSMAP 62s (singular) I've ordered. I want to overlay some key pictures from Google earth on top of the topo map I've also purchased amongst other things.

Also, I'm building myself a bigger "box" (wannigan, if you will) tomorrow, so I have something able to protect my "stuff" (kitchen gear and Petromax 500, namely).
I don't want it to be too pretty, as I'm in the process of getting HG Wagner to build me a lower version of the frame kitchen linked to below. However, the only plywood I have is 7mm mahogany marine plywood, so it won't be awful to look at unless I screw up considerably.
This is the camp kitchen I want. It's a tad over 50cms, but since my gunnels are really low and I even have floorboards, I think It would be best to have a lower version:

I like that one very much. It looks like it will be a birthday present to myself, though, as Wagner is only in the planning stage of building some more and will fit mine in between.

Sorry, this got off-topic a while, but to stay on track, I can tell the gunwales and "furniture" are cherry, the oars are spruce, using "Douglas type" oarlocks in bronze. It's 15ft long and about 94cms wide.
Well..... there may well be a new addition to the fleet, but for this to happen one must go!
The Java has drawn the short straw, as this a creeking boat for a small to medium paddler, (methinks I don't qualify for either) couple this to my lack of 'acking skills I doubt if will ever be able to paddle it to what it is designed for.
I will be attempting to part ex it for another craft more suited for my skills.

Watch this space!
