following on from the proposed chelmer meet...

The first trip is nearly upon us - 1st to 3rd May

description of trip from "the other channel"

we last had the following:

Quote:Attendees

1/2/3 May

Red (If we someone wants to share the fuel)
Biff
Pete & Tom (1st and 2nd)
Tod (1st and 2nd)
Mark (baggy) - not camping

Baggy did all the legwork for us before christmas and has booked the field at hoe mill lock for us to camp at. the willow trees are about 4m apart and we can hammock as long as we don't damage the bark - they each yield £400 of cricket bat wood. Bagsy the furthest two trees for me and the boy!

camp fires are fine, so long as the grass isn't marked. we can have a communal campfire if we so wish. there is a toilet for our use. no others will be using the field.

so roll up roll up.... who's still in and who's signing up?
I'm still in. I take it we just turn up and sort out payment once there.

joy

I can't make the week, are camp-fire s aloud at the June(26/27) weekend as well coz I may have something that would may protect the grass from the fire scar.

I reckon, we're booked in (cheers Baggy), and I think it's a fiver a night or something daft like that!

Well we'll find out then for you, but I'm pretty sure they'll just stick to their rule about using the existing bonfire heap for a camp fire.
As I sit here, pint of Fullers London Pride in my hand, I`m thinking, Hammock, tent, or tarp and ground dwelling. B***er it, I`ll chuck all three in and decide when I look how much pitch I got on saturday morning. But as I can only stay for saturday night, it`ll probably be the tarp. You ever tried getting in a hammock after a skinfull?Cheers I have, and went straight out t`other side and slept on the floor. Woke up with a slug moustache. He must have fancied my Jim Beam breath. Tent? hazard enclosed space and beer supper do not bode well for a restfull sleep. Be good to put faces to the names on here, so looking forward to it.
From what I remember, the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation isn't covered by the BCU Licence. What's the price of a weekend ticket and where can we get one from?

the ticket to canoe the chelmer & blackwater are about £4.50 a day which you can get from the lock keeper at paper mill lock, they might be available at Hoe mill lock but I'm not sure, you'll have to ask at the weekend camp.

There are two day tickets for a bit less, and a discount for groups if there are enough, they can be brought from Steve at Hoe mill.

Welcome back, Baggy. Hope we're going to see you at the camp. Hope you too can make it, even for part of a day, UKB, paddling or just chillin' round the camp fire. Thanks for the information.

Cheers
