I was looking at making my own as I had talked myself out of buying one at the Outdoor Show from Ronnie Sunshines but wasn't sure how to do the connection at the top when I saw Chris's post over on SOTP.
A certain Becky Mason saw it and said that's a neat setup - not that I'm one to name drop.
Cheers

Hi
It is not a good idea to have a fire on top of that Aluminum table
Alli melts at a low temp. also the the table has lats of plastic bits

That was what I thought when I first saw Canalvoyaguer using one for his firebox, but they work very well with the Yukon, I've not seen one damaged yet...

As Redframe says " they work very well with the yukon".
I certainly haven't had any problems and the table shows no signs of heat damage.

If it works, it works, but I am suprised

I think with the Yukon the fire is raised off the surface by a base tray, whereas the Fire Sprout has no base, just surrounding the fire. So the Yukon doesn't damage the surface on which it stands.
Having said that, both systems look pretty neat. The Fire Sprout looks as if it would be lighter than the Yukon, and easier to set up and pack away.

Hi Biff
" So the Yukon doesn't damage the surface on which it stands"
What you say is not quite true
That is why it is being used on a table
I am a fully qualified design engineer (retired) and have a lot of experience with combustion
It is just about impossible not to damage the grass the base make no or little difference
That is why it is being used on a table and a base extension is offered this extension will have little effect.
You may like to do the following experiment boil a saucepan of water on your gas/electric stove, take it into the garden and put on the grass then let it cool you will find that in a few days the grass is dead yet the temp. of the water is well below 100 , so what chance will you have with about 400 deg of burning wood it would have to be about 300mm of the ground.
This is why I have always said to cut a turf out and replace it when you leave, I have done this many time and often when returning a few week later can not find the place where the fire was
Consider the following
Cooking

After 3 nights i.e. two days of breakfast and 3 evening meals for 4 persons

How we left the campsite the farmer allows me to have open fire because he know I cut the turf

after a 2 hour burn cooking an meal for 4 persons

I have used both my Storm Kettle (for quite a long time) and my Yukon (recently) on one of those little Gelert alu tables, and it has survived perfectly. It raises the base by about 20cm. Before that I sued to knock a few tent pegs into the ground and suspend the Storm Kettle fire base in that.
We've often used alu drinks cans (empty of course
) to raise disposable BBQ's off the grass too

Good points raised Joc, especially useful for the newbie muppetts out there., of which most of us on here who venture into the outdoors are not!
So who used the Yukon to prove the point about marking the ground? Why wasn't one of your products used instead?

As I said if it work then it works but I am suprised

I was at a canoe meeting and and a Youkon was being used for the first time, the owner was some what disapointed as he had been told by Chris that the grass would be OK. I am not going to say the guys name.
On the same camp site the Fire Spout Maxi was being used with the turf being cut out

Fair one, TBH IMHO with ANY ground fire it's always better to take a sod out and I think John's post shows the devastation that any ground fire will cause.
