Hi Guys
I am now looking for a knowledgeable running mate who is willing to drag an old novice down some decent water not too distant from the Staffordshire/Cheshire/Derbyshire area.
When I mean novice I mean N ov ice
Old 50 ish ok the other side ish
Hope I still have bottle
Don't mind getting wet
Will bring the 'bath Tub'
David B was talking about a Derbyshire Derwent run out on our last get together. I've no experience of the river so couldn't say if its suitable for a novice but would imagine so. Maybe he'll see this and comment.

When the levels go down it would be a good trip. You would need to be fully confident in your ability to move your boat around on the flat, before hand.
There are a couple of bridges where you must get the right line but the majority of it from Darley down to Matlock is fairley easy with no must make moves.
See here for full description
The run from Darley Bridge to Matlock is fairly easy grade 1 maybe 2 which is a good grounding for eddying out and gaining boat control, the two bridges are both easily run with a defined line with dependent on levels, the fun comes when you hit Matlock Bath on the slalom course section where there are a few rocks to miss and some grade 2+ water with some good eddies and easy rescue points to set up.
Trip time 1 1/2 hours depending on playtime.
A good intriduction to moving water that we have used on many occasions.
No spec boat needed, I did the last trip in a Mobile Adventure 14.

Graeme
Anyone sticking the Matlock run in the diary before it gets too wet?
count me in
Sean
This trip is a good trip for all abilities, Its used for level 3 assesments and training as there are a lot of good coaching oppertunities, I have taken graeme down it as his first moving water trip and ever kayakers as an interduction so good for all.
The top bit is great for learning all the strokes, breaking in and out, ferry gliding and setting. There is somewhere to get out above the slalom course if you did not feel happy running it but their is nothing that will do you any harm just get a bit wet.
At the bottom of the slalom course is a good place to practice rescues if anyone wants to.
Im happy to run a trip if im avalable and people want it

If this comes off I'll gladly shuttle. As I live only a couple of miles away from Matlock this wouldn't be a problem and I'd be happy to help.
Oh, and take some photies
Nige.

I did that run a couple of years ago and as most will attest I am no great moving water paddler but found it relatively easy and very, very enjoyable

Anywhere for Mrs J to go shopping so she can pick me up a the end?

Jamatrad

So are you joining us then? I've put it on calendar, although my social PA is asleep on the sofa at the moment so i haven't had the event sanctioned!!
I'll still come down and see you all. So theres a lift back to Darley for those that need one!
Nige.
I will be running to the steps at the end of the slalom course to bring back memories of starting in moving water in the k***k many years ago.
