This is my first attempt with pics so excuse me if it doesn't work!Shy

Well I took the day off - thought - arm and back are feeling better, I'll get the new boat ready then get it into the water!joy

Hmm....

Ok so I started doing things my own way and time will tell if it was a good idea or not Devil but -

I started with the usual drilling of the hull for the handle - nothing new there -
then fed the rope through and knotted it with two figure of eight stoppers to fix the handle length both inside the hull and outside the hull -

The loose end inside the hull was then spliced back into the shank of the rope as this is to become the anchorage for my swim line

There was already a hole in the deck but it wasnt big enough for the rope I was using so I drilled it out to an easy pull through size.

The idea being that the swimline will be stored in the space in front of the air bag similar to an anchor locker on a yacht and will come up through the deck and can be pulled out when it is required.
swimline pulled through the deck and firmly attached to the hull - so it isnt pulling just on the deck plate.

this firm anchorage also becomes a secure anchorage for the front of the airbag and the cord for that is spliced through the swimline and tied firmly to the airbag then passed around the airbag and again secured to the front fixing so it cant pull backwards.

add some lacing through the hull and secured to the fore/aft bag tie and that end is done. the krab in this pic is temporary - the idea is to leave just the line or to attach a small float to the end of the line.

the swimline having been spliced at the end means that the end is a nice push fit into the hole in the deck plate so that the line won't just all run out if the canoe is upside down - it needs a gentle pull to make it come out of the "locker"

So - same thing at the other end near enough and we're all ready to go -

Still waiting for my CWAV stickers which seem to have taken a long time to come - have you run out Nige?

But even going in the raw - spirit was ready to go and so was I - until

bleepbleepbleep - the bleep roofrack doesn't fit the car - new car - same model - different fitting!bleepbleepbleep

So I still can't get to the water!

So I've come inside to try to put these pics on here instead - well there's always Sunday to try again!Sad

Ric

Very nice job Ric, and great name.

I posted the stickers late because I kept forgetting Shy But still must be a couple of weeks ago!

Nige.
Thanks Nige,
they have't arrived yet - great postal service eh! Spirit will have to go naked until they get here!

Can't imagine where the name came from - I think it had something to do with an earlier thread that mentioned some sort of tipple!Smile

Ah - but I've just thought - I never take water with mine - perhaps thats why I don't seem to be able to get it launched - its come out in sympathy!Shy

I would haave done if my trolley had worked or I'd already got the one from you - see its all plotting against me - I think I must be fated to never get to the water!mad

just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that the world isn't out to get me!Rolleyes
Ric
Hey Ric, don't worry it will get to the water soon Wink

Nice job on the lacing and swim-line, one thing I would do is lose the loop on the free end of the swim-line, it does look nice but clean lines are always saferWink
Thanks Graeme,
the krabs there just to stop me pulling the loop closed whilst I decided on it - I prefer the spliced end to a rope because I don't like the melted ends, if I take the krab out I can make the loop disapear instantly and leave a clean end - so I'll take your advice and close the ends.
Ric
Cool Wink

Do like the name,,,, don't know how you came by that Whistle
