Actually it all started with a kayak which I bought as a boy on the Norfolk broads. Next thing I noticed "pirogues" and dugout canoes in Africa and I made a couple of short river trips there in the eighties. After that things got rather busy until I moved to Norwich a couple of years ago.

Retirement? I'm 53 and not sure but I have time on my hands to explore the local rivers once again.

Canoing skills? I just passed my ** which was fascinating and, in fact, I'm still practising some of those paddle strokes in my wenonah prism which I bought from Sue's Canoes. There's not much white water in Norfolk and my ideal is to take it slooowly, portaging round locks and paddling into narrow chanels not neccessarily in a large party. Sometimes it's nice just to get away from things!

Fitting out? I see there have been some useful posts in the past. I'm thinking about replacing wenonah's marvellous sliding seat with a kneeling thwart, for example, and would be interested in anybody else's views on this and/or similar topics.
Hi Robcary, A warm welcome to the Forum, know what you mean about getting away on your own, I think we all like to do that from time to time, But to be part of a group of like minded people is something else. Do enjoy the forum, and above all Happy Paddling.
Regards Bill
Hi Rob,

Welcome to the forum....Wave

Norfolk is a beautiful place to spend some time paddling, especially at daft o'clock in the morning when all is quiet except for the wildlife... Smile

Enjoy, and hope to see you on the water soon.

Cheers
Red.

Hi Rob, a big warm welcome to C-wav. Nice to be welcoming a Broads person to the site. Almost grew up in Broadland holiday with family when I was younger and now enjoying it for its almost unlimited paddling potential. I must point you towards the "Summer holiday", some of us will be there at the end of July and you're more than welcome to join us a bit of paddling.

See you on the water sometime!

Nige.
Welcome Rob, welcome
I am sure you will enjoy the banter on here
