Hi there, I've just upgraded my pfd to a delta ranger & i'm wondering if anyone knows what size hydration pack to use & any tips on cleaning & storing of such pack. Someone told me they keep there's in the freezer when not in use. Is this a good idea?
Hi TerryJ,
I have a Ranger too, have not used a bladder in it yet though so not sure of the size, the pocket looks too small for a large one, so thinking a 1.5ltr one looks as big as it will take, someone will probably confirm or put us straight soon enough though. As to cleaning you can buy a proper kit Platypuss and Camalbak offer their own, also check out Decathlon too as they usually have reasonably priced bladders and kits.
Yes, as an ex-mountainbiker I used to freeze the bladder, after washing of course to stop any nasties. Don't leave one lying around for months in a cupboard, if you do bin it don't use it, you'll never clean it sufficiently.

I use the 1.5 ltr bladder in mine....
As Nige says the Decathlon Quechua is a nice unit, the feeder tube is screwed to the bladder and is easy to remove for cleaning...
I use a cleaning kit for mine, and make sure everything is properly dry (especially the tube) before storing... I don't bother freezing... Just swill it out before the next use.

Great guys thanks, do you think the weight of a full bladder pack would be a problem for a 12 year old in the event of a swim. I've just bought another ranger for Damo.
Personally, no, it's neutral bouyancy, but if you wanted an option you could go for the "Camelback Better Bottle", we find them most excellent as you can crab them into the boat so that they're handy but don't roll around.

We also carry 5l of water and a concentrated orange juice on longer runs so that we never run out...
We picked ours up in a field and trek sale for about £7.00....
