Hi, my name is Cathy (you may have guessed that!) I have been looking at canoe websites for a while now, just came across C-waV and decided to join. I recently retired but used to do a lot of sailing on cruising yachts and played around in dinghies. I have owned a coleman explorer 166 for a few years now, I bought the coleman because it was cheap and at least got me on the water, but due to its size/weight and lack of other folk to paddle it has not got the use it should have. Since I retired I have decided to try and do more canoeing, especially as there is a canal about 300yds from my doorstep. I am looking at getting a solo canoe as that is the only way I think I am going to have a chance of learning and enjoying canoeing. Could go on for ever but will stop twittering on for now. I live in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, have two dogs (could be interesting in a small canoe - ok in the coleman!) Thats it for now folks. Cathy.
P.S. I like playing with wood and stuff so I have made a rudder, lee-boards, outriggers, floats and a mast for the coleman, just got to finish the bat-wing sail and figure out how to get it to the water??Smile
Hi Cathy,

Welcome to the forum...

There's quite a bunch of our members from over your way, I'm sure they'll introduce themselves soon enough...

It sounds like you need a portage trolley to me.... Smile

Great stuff making all your own sailing rig up, hopefully you'll be out on the water with new friends soon....Wink

Cheers

Welcome to CWAV Cathy!
As someone else who has downsized (at least boatwise!) from yachts to a canoe - I know just how it goes - and I also needed to work out how to get to and from the water without crippling myself - for me its trailers and trollys but there are lots of possibilities from lightweight canoes to living on the water - and I'm sure you will get lots of support and advice here -I did and its still comeing!joy
