Hi All. I've got some holiday time coming up in July which unfortunately Sam has not been able to book as well. Sad I'm planning on taking a ten day trip with just James (3 and a half). scare My thoughts are to stick to canals for the ease of entry and egress and not bouncy WW Alternatively a nice quiet river route would be nice. We'll be either tenting or tarping dependent on weather etc. tipi Can anyone recommend a route with minimum portages/likelyhood of hassle etc? Copper Sam will drop us off and pick us up so no need for a there and back route. Cheers all and roll on July. joyjoyjoy
10 days...scare

Holland....Question Big Grin

For rivers the Wye is very low at the moment, so low you can stand up in it, you could portage Monnington, and Symonds Yat.... but you'd have to take it nice and easy to stretch it to 10 days..(Out n About has just done it and is currently writing an epic TT, Terry's on it this week)...Smile

Canals... there's the Cheshire loop and I'm sure loads more...

Cheers
Red.
I second the Netherlands. Many moons ago when the earth's crust was still cooling and dinosaurs roamed the surface, I did a canoe/kayak trip in the Brabant region. Twas excellent. All the pubs have canalside entrances so you can moor up and stop for some refreshments and a quick game of pool or darts or hammering a nail into a block of wood.

Have a look here for canoe routes in the Netherlands. The English links are on the left below the Dutch links. http://www.kanoroutes.nl/
Quite few years ago (before I met the open) I was engaged in watching open canoeists on the canal at Edam. for the lazy canoe (such as I am) it looked idyllic.
I keep telling myself I mst get over there with a boat sometime
To be honest, Holland is too far to go with just James and I. Besides there's always the chance Sam will join us for a w/end. Cheers for the suggestion though. Mike.
