Well i only live about 1/2 a mile away and i have never been on the river Aire or the adjoining canal, so i thought to myself ok lets have a little jaunt to see what its like.... so i arrived there at 11.30am and went over to see the lock keeper to let her know i was going to be on the river going up stream .. you have to do this as there is some very big traffic on this part of the river, here is a pic of the put in .. and some of the big boys you have to keep an eye out for[Image: dayontheriver029.jpg][Image: dayontheriver027.jpg][Image: dayontheriver026.jpg] once your underway though you soon come across the industrial side of Ferrybridge power station [Image: dayontheriver015.jpg][Image: dayontheriver014.jpg] the large square looking tower is a contraption for lifting barges that carry coal out of the water then tips them upside down to empty them ( beats useing a shovel i suppose ) once past the power station the river opens up quite nicely i thought[Image: dayontheriver021-1.jpg][Image: dayontheriver020.jpg][Image: dayontheriver018.jpg] I even tried a Tim special arty shot over the side[Image: dayontheriver019.jpg] There was one more noisy part going under the new A1 bridge [Image: dayontheriver017.jpg] after that is was peace and quiet again .... and in true cWav style is was time for a brew stop .. oh and a bacon and egg sarnie[Image: dayontheriver023.jpg][Image: dayontheriver022.jpg] I had coverd three miles according to the gps and as i am on nights tonight i thought i should head back ... the skyes were looking threatening so i tootled back down to the put in ... all in all a good day out which i will be doing again sometime soon
Lovely TT and photos Harley. Looks like a great little local trip for you.

Heading upstream, depending on the type of river of course, seems to be overlooked as many do not like the hard work, but a few miles like yours and time for a bite to eat, just to enjoy the easy warm down on the way back seems just the ticket. In fact you've reminded me of a little local upstream excursion that I have not done in a while.

Thanks for sharing your day with us. Smile

Smashing read Harley,

It is indeed great to get out on your local stretch of water and that one looks perfect for a few hours sauntering at a moments notice.....joy

Thanks for sharing, nice shots.

Cheers
Red.
Hi Harley

Well done, you said that you wanted to try it and it looks worth the effort.
Them barges look big. The brew up kit looks good :-)
