HI from Stowmarket,I am completely new to canoeing and although we have sailed , rowed, motored, vessels from Thames barges to yachts to sailing dinghys, to cruisers, the canoe has always eluded us until that is we took our grandchildren to Alton Waters at Holbrook, where we have had so much fun over the last 18 months or so, that we decided to purchase a second hand Old Town Ojibway that we saw advertised. We have yet to get it onto the water, we had to piggy back it home from the seller on top of our sailing dinghy, because our car is to small to carry a canoe on the roof. So we have been busy converting our trailer to carry either our dinghy or the canoe,as we have just about finished this project, we are ready now for any advise, tips, in fact anything you seasoned canoeists out there can offer us, all info/knowledge will be gratefully recieved. Looking forward to meeting some of you out on the water, cheers for now.squiggly.
Hi Squiggly....
Welcome to "The Way of the WaV"....
Glad to hear you've already started your journey into the wonderful world of Canoeing. It sounds like you're already well advanced in what would be my first piece of advice..... "Get out and enjoy yourselves"....
There's plenty on here that will be more than willing to help out with any queries/questions that you may have....
Look around, there's lots of information in past posts that I'm sure will help out, and if you don't understand anything, just post up...
My second piece of advice would be to take a camera with you (in a waterproof bag/container) and get some shots of your escapades...., there's nothing we like more than reading about, and seeing, other's paddling experiences from around the country and around the world...
Hope to see you out on the water soon.
Cheers
Red.
Hi Squiggly, a big warm welcome to c-waV. A fair bunch now gathering on here from East Anglia and the south east corner so plenty of possibles for company on a paddle. Be sure to keep an eye on the "Out n About". As for advice as Red says loads of helpful info on here, but if you can't find the answer then ask away.
A group of us will be on the Broads first week in August so if you fancy an excuse, you'll be more than welcome to join us for a paddle...
Details here.
See you on the water sometime.
Nige

Just because we are seasoned it doesn't mean we are any good
