The 3rd annual "End of Summer Meet"(EoSM) will again be based at Byecross Farm near Hereford as it was last year (2009).
The EoSM appears to be a popular event, well attended for last two years, and last year was in my opinion the best event we've had. Attracting some 25 paddlers and their families or partners. A great social and family event, we were even blessed with some excellent late summer weather too
The whole weekend this year again will be centred around the main canoe trip on the Saturday. Friday usually reserved for arriving and pitching in time for some socialising, chin-wagging and banter around the central campfire. Sunday people start to disperse at varying different times, some choosing to canoe some more before leaving and heading home.
Last year we started to introduce some evening demos/talks and these seemed well received and served to entertain. Well this year we hope to have some more lined up including knives & Sharp bits, Wood carving, Pyrography, Archery** and something quite special more of which later.
This leads me to a point and that is we're now going to have to employ a time itinerary as some things we have planned will require some daylight, so the Saturday canoe trip will be ready to leave at a given time to be announce later.
The camp site at Byecross farm lends itself nicely to our needs, providing just enough in the way of facilities, there is a shower and toilets. Camping last year was very reasonable at around a fiver a night, I'll confirm this later.
I'll stress this now that so that there is no confusion later. Socialising around the central campfire can sometimes go on quite late! Those wishing for peace and quiet and a nights sleep are best pitching away from this area!
Photos and Tales from Last years EoSM can be found HERE for those who wish to see what we get up to.
Everyone is welcome, we do welcome guests of members, but please post up names and numbers to the list so we have an idea of numbers. I do have to warn the owners shortly beforehand! No booking necessary!
Get you names down, and I look forward to seeing you all there.
The list for attendees to start shortly
Now, what we have planned.
Friday
Boat "tryout 'n' test session" Friday afternoon.
Campfire Social Friday night.
Saturday
River paddle Saturday. This year we're planning to head downstream from the site this time to a pre-determined take-out for a shuttle back.
Kiddies colouring comp. 6.30ish
Saturday night
All things sharp. Gregs(Firebreather)
Wood carving demo Ric (Deepkeel)
Fire eating Greg(Firebreather)
Kuksa and unknown concoction pass-around and social (if we can remain upright)
I am hoping that for the "Tryout 'n' test" session people will gladly donate there canoes for this. Wink The tryouts are usually rather fun. Come and have a go in anything you fancy. Your own should be there for anyone else to have a go too. Smile
Additional to the above Redframe will be on hand for any coaching over the weekend so please make yourselves known to him and of your requirements.
The boat park for the "Tryout n test" will be at the put-in at the site and there will be someone on hand to ensure that all boats borrowed are handled correctly when launching and taking out.
Additional to the Saturday Paddle, main paddle to be around 9 miles (ish) but there are options to extend the mileage for those wishing to go that little bit further!
