It had been a while since Mand and I had planned a weekend of chilling down at C-WaV's spiritual home... Oak Meadowford lock. But plans change don't they, first a message from Bill that he was going down there and second we couldn't find any one to look after Nancy and Ozzy for Sat night, so a one nighter was called for.....

We arrived at the Black Lion at about tinny time, so after loading the boats and setting off I cracked open a cold one, the evening was a calm one no wind. We paddled slowly along, we were in no rush and the paddle to OML deserves to be savoured as does a fine wine.

From the Black Lion to OML it is only about a mile but it took us 3/4 hour to get there,
With a whistle and a shout of "HO! THE CAMP!" we were escorted into the fabled gates.

Bill and Ian were there fed and watered sitting outside of Bills canvas cottage. pleasantries were exchanged
Mandy and I quickly put up our Robens Fortress tent, there was more headroom than I remembered.....

A night time of chilling with friends

a lye-in later (apparently it rained at six-ish Shy ) we were up and scoffing bacon butties....

A few coffees later Mand and I decided to paddle up the Churnet for a while,

there were a few fallen trees to add interest

and reeds a plenty

After a while we turned back to the camp and yet another coffee,
Bill and I showed each other our sores oopps saws,

(thanks for the prezzie Bill Wink )
Just as a warning to show that OML is not a place for woosies

After saying "tara-a-bit" to Bill and Ian we set off back to the car.

I'll leave the tale here as packing the car is boring.
Although it was just one night it was a tonic that we both needed and enjoyed I am sure when Bill's wood pile gets depleted he will head home and add to the tale with piccies...

Cheers
Tim and Mand
Excellent Tim , nice to see the lock again! Wish I'd managed to get there!

The river looks a bit choked, how far did you make it?

Thanks for sharing. Smile

Nige.
We paddled about 3/4 hour up then back no map or gps so couldn't say where we got to. But enjoyed it all the same.

cheers
Tim
It was nice to see you and your good lady Tim. Pity you couldn't have stayed for longer. I had a really good time, thank you Bill for inviting me. Bill took me down to the car at about 14.00 and was spending tonight in camp before heading in opposite direction , for home.
Despite a terrible forecast, the weather was fine on Saturday. The sun even came out for an hour or two. It rained a few times on Sunday morning, but eventually faired up at about lunchtime.
All in all a very good weekend.
Looks like a fine evening, as you say, there is nothing like OML for a tonic.

As Nige says, I wish I could have made it but unfortunately I had other commitments this weekend....Sad

Glad the weather held out for y'all...., Has Bill caught that Frackin' Mole yet.....Question

Cheers
