having talked to a few members about a trip that may involve some portages (which would involve full kit)i thought I'd share with you my fortunes and misfortunes with portage trolleys.
the first one i got from internet and having checked the site from where it was purchased it seems as though they have now a different style of trolley.
the original one broke near the wheel and when a replacement was sent back the same thing happened,so i got this one;
I have now had this for nearly 6 months and this trolley has been without fault ,and has transported my canoe with full kit over lovely on soft grounds with bumps and has held up to the task.
this is where it came from;

The trolley certainly has been put to the test as anyone who knows how well prepared Warthog is will attest (lightweight, minimalist camping is not in Warthogs repertoire

) I have seen it haul a heavily laden canoe with another on top over rough and muddy ground without the slightest grumble, then it folds away and drops into the boat. Well worth the money, I may even get one myself

Trolleys sure are useful. The kayak one I have [looks like the same make as yours] has certainly proved its worth.
The only puzzle I have with them is that given that it stands to reason you are always going to use them with straps you would have thought it not beyond the wit of their designers to have obvious securing points. I always find I finish up twisting lengths of strap round the frame before hitching it off.
There must be a better way. Any one any tips?
in answer to aslan ,i think that on the whole your boat due to the space issue will be pack the same way all the time but iknow that if i'm river tripin the i load my boat differantly then if im day tripin or out for a day or two ,therfore the trolly has to be moved to get the right balance.
the other thing is that some folks like to pull the boat some like to push weight front or back with all these differant factors what could any maker of boats do.

I have an Eckla trolley. I put the cam of a 5m strap in the canoe, then thread the loose end over the gunwale, behind both supporting tubes and back over the same gunwale. Continue on over the opposite side and again behind both supporting tubes but this time, on the other side. Finally, the loose end comes back up to meet the cam. Tighten and away you go. Check to make sure it's tight after a few hundred yards, if wetted or loosened.
I sometimes find that pushing is easier than pulling, as you can see what the canoe is doing over the bumps.
