Hi

My son and I are canoeing the length of the river severn for charity

We have not been in a canoe before so any advice on long distance canoeing would be appreciated

Welcome to C-waV.

I would imagine you'd find that more than a challenge having not canoed before!

I take it that you will be canoeing before then? Your intro is rather vague!

Not a distance and a river I'd undertake without some proper coaching first!

Good luck with it anyway! Wish you all the best!

Nige.
is it a race or is it just collecting donations for doing it? do you have to carry all your gear with you or does some one transport it to where you stop for the night? personally i would travel as lite as possible, remembering if you get wet some types of clothing will become twice as heavy as when you started off. eat lots of carbs in you menu. instant oatmeal's for breakfast pbj pitas pack easily for lunch, splurge more for supper. carry along some hard candies for snacks [quick energy]. you need to drink about 2 quarts minimum per day. take some pics and enjoy your trip, weather you win or loose. oh and don't flip the canoeCool
Hi

We are in training with the help of a D of E instructor and are currently working on a large lake, with the move to the river coming shortly

Its certainly not a race just collecting as much as possible for the charities.

We are expecting to take approx 6 days.

Thanks for the advice blackdawg
