Ok i love camping and own several tents of variuos desriptions but when staying just one or two nights, on my own at a proper site, sometimes i just kip in my ford Galaxy with all the rear seats removed and stored at home. This saves me time when i get back home as i dont have to start drying out the tent and washing off mud etc.
I know Terry also does this with a Tarp attached to his van.
Does anyone else and what van, estate car etc do you use ?

Cheers

Roy
Oh Roy, Oh Roy, sorry for this, but kipping in a vehicle, no sorry but just couldn't, I take your point of the cleaning and drying of equipment, I must be odd I suppose but I take a delight in cleaning off my equipment, equipment that has looked after me whilst camping, I consider it all part of the experience, sorry my friend have never and would never kip in a vehicle, sorry that's a lie,Devil did a few times on long distance but had a sleeper cab, Regards Bill
Sorry but we use our long wheelbase VW Transporter to kip in if we are only staying for one night as it is easier and warmer than a tent, plus you don't have to pack it up in the morning if you are having an early start.

If you get on to a site with mains hook up its great as you can plug a microwave, kettle in etc and even a heater if it is cold (like Northumberland in November on the Tyne Tour!) if no mains plenty of space to get the Jet Boil going Campfire

Being a bigger wos now, if we are going for a weekend we take the caravan Wink

Cheers Graeme

Does this mean I can book a bed in your mobile lodgings for the Tyne Tour?

Thank you much appreciated.

So does the site charge you just for the car or for the non existent tentQuestion

I've only ever done this out of necessity rather than choice. Snowed in at the head of a scottish glen in January with the road blocked for 4 days my old escort seemed a better bet than digging a snow hole.
I've kipped in a mini once but that was more to do with knocking myself out cold after crashing it on a country back lane at 11pm. Oh and i've slept under a caravan before, but that was more to do with collapsing comatose after spending a penny on the long walk home trashed from completing the Headingley mile.Big Grin I subsequently find tents quite luxurious!!

The Tyne Tour is looking doubtful for us attending, as we may be away the following Tuesday/Wednesday afterwards and with the Canoe Symposium the weekend after makes it a bit tight on time to get everything ready for a flier on the Friday to get to Lakeside (well the hotel actually Wink ), so sorry Sean if we come up it will be just for the race on Saturday.

Most sites charge per person and i always say 1 tent anyway then i have the choice as i pack my tent anyway
Some sites won't allow me to stay in my van because it doesn't have curtains but i argue that it has black tinted windows.

Roy
We normally just pay the standard camping rate plus electric hook up if we use it.

This is the campsite we use for the Tyne Tour, Wellhouse Farm fairly easy to get to and with a decent pub just up the road that does nice reasonably priced meals. Plus they are open in November when a lot of the other campsites are closed, I think warthog has a site that they normally use a bit closer to Hexham.

Cheers Graeme
Rolleyes On long journeys, yes - Can be handy. The downside of which, is the moisture buildup and having to dry the car out soon after the trip.

That would be the practice of parking in a recognised meeting point and performing certain acts for onlookers to watch and in some cases participate. And i wrote that purely so you didn't google it at workCopper
I have been known to opt for the car to sleep in, often after having things thrown at me in an effort to stop my night time murmurings. Whistle
