Full Version: Derwent Water Frozen

At least half of Derwent Water is frozen, near enough from the youth hostle down to the South end. The islands have 50-100m of ice around them and the rest of the lake has football pitch sheets of ice floating round in it.
My verdict is not worth the risk of a paddle as there is ice extending out from the shore line.

Nope but a couple of frozen penquins. I thought you said you put them in your jacket to warm up before eating as to not break your teeth. Tongue

Paddled across Rannoch Moor one February. Had to pull the boats half way across Loch Ba before we could get to open water, then again at the eastern end of Loch Ba, before the portage to Loch Laidon... Go Adventure.

Yes, you're quite right. We should support the right to make our own judgement - to run or portage; to paddle or not.

Hope you noted the ticking off of the local lads for going out on the ice. How far was it you said you'd walked out at Kettlewell?
I didn't walk out as far as the kid's had I only went about 50ft and I wasn't carting dirty great rocks with me.Wink
