Thinking of going to see what the Chesterfield canal is like next weekend sometime - 17th/18th.
Was going to put in where Graeme wrote about.
Anyone fancy it or know any other good bits on the canal.
I am new to opens so don't expect anything technical.
Sabina
Just a point Sabina, is the canal free of ice? and if this present cold spell persists, might be worth checking first.
Regards Bill
That stretch of the canal is used on a regular basis by narrow boats and pleasure craft so should be fine

That's why I said next weekend -weather forecast say warming up by beginning of next week!!!
I have a contact at work who's mother-in-law has the canal at the bottom of her garden - so was going to get my spy's out nearer the time.
Something familiar about that weekend

Oh yes, the wifes birthday.
Ah well, maybe next time.
Have a good day Sabina.
Hi Sabina
Can't make the Saturday have to open the shop, but maybe up for Sunday what time are you thinking of?

Graeme

Errr excuse me, I am just offering to give a new member a bit of support and coaching and I bet she gets on the bubbly stuff before you lot
Plus I do like that stretch of water, we run a lot of our courses on there and it is great for the flora and fauna and I bet it's stunning this time of year
Oh and another good reason there is a cracking pub at the start and finish

Great minds you two
Seriously it is a lovely stretch of canal with some good brew stop's, even Heather enjoys it sometimes, but she is at the BCU coaches conference that weekend in Nottingham, so if anyone would like to come along sure you will enjoy it.

Graeme
They are all just jealous you are the only gentleman amongst them Graeme
Sunday is brilliant - you can suggest time - I might need better description of start point than your write up?
Canals easier for beginners - got high edges!!!
Aiming for moving stuff.
All tips and hints welcome - practice makes perfect - might have practiced getting into canoe by then - rather than hopping around!! (Thirlmere).
Pub after then.

What better Sunday.

And getting cold again on Sunday windchill factor of -4 @ 15.00

and winds gusting to 26mph, but being sheltered should not be too bad.
Suggest meeting up about 10ish suggest meeting
HERE
Paddle down towards Retford stop for a spot of luncheon, then practice set and trim paddling back up against the wind and aim to be off the water around 3ish before it gets too cold

and then

in the Mucky Duck
