Any chance I might tempt some of you lot, "ower the boarder" this year. You know, Scotland. Free and easy access, legal wild camping, plenty of lochs and rivers to choose from but plenty midgies too ILL Spy duck. I'll even waive the requirement for a passport Wink Tongue.

Maybe Kite? joy
Well we are heading up to Tayside at Easter, either staying at Aberfeldy or Pitlochry and spending a lot of time at Grandtully joy

I think there was plans afoot for a trip to Loch Shin as well.

Cheers Graeme

PS How's Mrs Kite & Holly doing?
A trip across the border is certainly penciled in for me this year Graeme. It'd have to be before or after the midge invasion though! I fancy doing Loch Ken (is that 2 n's or 1?)sometime!

You know its not long now to the anniversary, we really should do something for then as well!

One 'N', Nnige Tongue. Perfect location and I'd love to go back after last year. A whole weekend (2 nights) is best.

I'd definitely love to do summat for the "anniversary". Would be an honour but you're getting no more whisky ILL.

Interesting! Mrs Kite's folks have a caravan at Pitlochry so possibilities there. As for Mrs Kite's and Holly's welfare - knackered and screaming seem to fit the bill these days Exclamation
Loch ken sounds perfet for a W/C weekend/week day adventure.
I have a lose idea of paddling the Caledonia this year or next - will probably be after midge season if its this year though.Sad

When do they dis-appear?joy

L Ken is a good day or two. Close by are L Doon and Clatteringshaws Loch; other lochs and rivers too. be quite a gentle week of paddling if you head that way. The R Doon is reputedly a good paddle at G2. The R Ken has one or two wibbles before it empties into the Solway.
Loch Ken sounds good to me for a weekend

Loch Ken in March? The C-WaV Mad March Weekender? Should be ok for midgies then. But as my Loch Ken companion (a certain fabled Lion) says, "Always carry a midge head net!". Being a native and being used to our local midgies when in the garden for long spells, I foolishly thought I would be ok. Arrggghhhh Exclamation That first morning was hell but he of the mane went about his business entirely without concern and with his usual, seemingly teutonic efficiency. They didn't bother us at any other time and that was June so take a head net and wee drop repellent and thy'll be fine. March is non-midgie season as they're still hibernating - if Loch Ken had a monster it'd be long deid for the midgies would've eaten it. No mosquitoes in Caledonia 'cos the midgies ate them all. They're smaller, blacker and way deadlier!

Lock Ken has got loads of interesting little features and anyone with a pole would enjoy playing with it (ooer) at the north end, amongst the many little channels and reed beds. A group camp on the large, northern island would be great depending on numbers - got a really big fireplace but is consequently a popular spot. Being a long thin loch and having an almost meandering character means you cannot see too far ahead at any one point so there's always the feeling of discovery round the next corner. Thanks to Alsan, I had a really great time there.

Oh aye, that's where my username comes from - bring your waterproof binoculars as the prospect of majestic, soaring Red Kites is always on the cards. A truly awe-inspiring sight Smile

P.S. Woody Woodgas's at the ready!
Weekend of the 29th March is a possibility Wave
