just a heads up about a bad weir on the river goyt near stockport about 1/2 mile down stream from Manchester Canoe Club which was a 15 ft easy slide down a sloping weir but now has broken down and has about 5 RSJ or railway sleepers like sharks teeth poking up .

It's not too pleasant, but apparently it does form a nice surf wave below it in higher levels.
